Play the Yamaha P90 Professional Portable Stage Piano once and you won't settle for anything less. Graded-hammer effect keyboard for realistic piano touch, dynamic stereo sampling for the ultimate in piano expression, PC/MIDI interface, and 64-note polyphony that prevents note cutoff even during demanding musical passages.

A Fine Selection of Essential Voices

The voices of Yamaha 's acclaimed P-80 digital piano, taken to a new level. Featuring more than twice the WAV ROM of its predecessor, it delivers truly professional digital piano performance with long sustained samples and abundant sample points for each voice. On top of its exceptional dynamic stereo sampled piano voices, which change dynamically in timbre according to how hard the keys are pressed, the P-90 provides a complete range of the most commonly used keyboard sounds, including classic and contemporary digital pianos, jazz and church organs, harpsichords, and more.

Slim and Lightweight Design

Made for musicians on the go and for studios and stages where space is tight, the P90 offers heavyweight performance in a lightweight package. Weighing in at a mere 37 lbs. and measuring 11-1/4" deep, the P-90 can be easily hauled to gigs and placed in studios and on stages where ordinary digital pianos may not fit comfortably.

PC-MIDI Interface

A built-in "to host" MIDI interface provides a direct connection to a Mac or Windows PC.

Realistic Piano Touch

Yamaha's acclaimed graded hammer-effect keyboard provides the expressive feel and response of an acoustic piano. Just as on a real piano, the keys in the lower registers have a heavier touch, which gradually becomes lighter as you play up the keyboard. And unlike on an acoustic piano, the keyboard's sensitivity can be adjusted to match your own playing style.

Expressive Piano Sound

To achieve the ultimate in piano realism, many of the P90's piano sounds feature dynamic stereo sampling-—3 layers of precisely recorded digital samples each set at a different velocity point. In other words, when you play the keyboard lightly you hear the true sound of a piano being played pianissimo. And as you play harder, the sound switches to that of a piano being played mezzo forte or forte. But the realism doesn't stop there. There's also a fourth sample layer that simulates the resonance of the piano strings and soundboard when the damper pedal is held down and key-off samples to re-create the subtle sound piano keys make when released.

MIDI Recorder

A perfect tool for practicing or songwriting, the MIDI recorder lets you record an entire performance and play it back at the touch of a button. You can then go back and record a second part using a different voice.

Built-in Demo Songs

50 popular and original songs are available at the press of a button. Try playing along or simply sit back and enjoy listening to them.

Simply the best

I fell in love with this piano the first time I played on it. I am a pro guitarist but far from that on the keyboards although I have to fill that role as well in our band and this piano has a feel that is so smooth and easy. The keys react just like an acoustic piano as far as the harder you press the louder the sound. I need something that plays easy as I am a background keyboard player and this plays like a dream. The next best feature is its simplicity of operation. There are not 1000 keys to punch on this one, and that to me is a great feature, you don't have to take a course on how it works. Buy it, it just doesn't get any better.

I wrung myself in anguish over the old 'ringing in the upper registers' question that seems to plague the P90 and its siblings with the dynamic stereo layering, and ended up buying a P60 out of apprehension. But fate intervened, and I found myself with access to a P90 for a couple of weeks... I swapped out for my own without much delay. It's no good using headphones straight out of the piano: I have my P90 connected by RCA cables to a small, quality home amp, and once the signal filters through, the sound is magnificent. No abrasive ringing, but gobs of depth and texture to the sound.

Add to that, this sucker is markedly lighter and slimmer than the P60 or the P120 -- as long as you've got a good set of speakers to hook into at home or on the road, you won't miss the puny little woofer cones that seem to add ten inches of girth to the other pianos.

I have yet to play another digital piano that doesn't leave me antsy to get home and hammer away on my P90. The sound and the touch are unparalleled, period.

The best digital piano ever

I'm a professional jazz pianist. I've put off buying a digital piano for twenty years because nothing has come close to sounding and feeling like a real piano. Having studied at the Experimental Music studio at MIT I've been watching advances in digital audio very closely from an engineering perspective also. For digital grand piano, the Yamaha P90/P120 is it. Finally! In many ways it's even better than acoustic pianos; perfectly regulated action and unchanging voicing are incumbent with digital audio keyboards. The only glaring weakness is in the decay and sustain which are noticeable in subtle jazz ballads and classical pieces like Chopin nocturnes. But the velocity and pressure sensing is suprisingly responsive to delicate touch, so perhaps the mechanics are a little bit ahead of the electronics. More sample points will no doubt fix that problem. In a few years, maybe the Yamaha digital piano will even surpass most high-end acoustic grand pianos. As it is now, it's easily better than most uprights I've played in the past 35 years.

I've had 2 P80's & now use a P90. I play pretty hard and these things hold up better than anything else that's out there. I'm not very impressed with the piano samples; they're okay solo but don't really sound good with my loudass rock bands. There's a good wurly, decent clav, okay strings. The onboard patches are okay in a pinch or when I don't want to carry much. The key action is fantastic, though, so I keep using them (usually w/a Kurzweil Micro). It is the smallest, lightest, cheapest, most durable weighted-key controller I know of.

A Top Quality Keyboard

As a piano student, I was looking for a portable keyboard that had the same sound and feel of my insructers' piano. I purchased A P-90, and it surpasses all of my expectations. The P-90 is a Quality instrument. My favorite feature is the touch sensitive keys. The sound is the same as an acoustic piano. The other voices sound great, and the on board 2-track recorder works well as a practice tool.
