The NP-30 Portable Grand delivers Yamaha digital piano sound and simplicity in a new lightweight, compact design like nothing else you've seen... all at a price point you won't believe. Its super slim design and minimal weight of 12 pounds makes it the most compact performer in the digital piano family of instruments. And 6 AA batteries (not included) are all you need to power up and start playing immediately.

Graded Soft Touch Action Because of its similarity to acoustic pianos, a graded action is one of the primary features sought by pianists in their digital instruments. While technically a non-weighted action, the new Graded Soft-Touch keyboard is the first of its kind bringing different levels of resistance without the extra weight of moving hammers the key contributor to the NP-30's fighting weight of only 12 pounds. The end result is a very playable action that will appeal to pianists who want to take their music anywhere.

AWM Stereo Piano Samples Advanced Wave Memory is Yamaha's exclusive format for reproducing sounds digitally. And stereo means that Yamaha used two microphones to record the piano you hear on every key of the NP-30 adding even more realism to the sound you hear.

Built-in Metronome Every pianist knows that practice makes perfect. And one tool they've all used to keep time when practicing is the metronome. The NP-30 has a built-in metronome and even has multiple time signatures (3/4, 4/4, 6/8) to choose from. Plus the numeric key function lets you set the tempo to the exact marking you need.

Dual Voice Mode Choose any two Voices you'd like to combine and play them both at once. Dual Voice mode makes this easier than ever. Simply hold down the Voice Select button and select the two you'd like to hear for a variety of combinations.

Great practice piano

I bought this as a "campfire" keyboard. No, not to burn it, to play it around with my guitar playing friends. I also own a Yamaha Motif XS, a Korg Triton Extreme, a Roland Fantom XR and VK8m. And I have to say other than the lack of polyphony on the NP-30, the piano sound is right up there with the much more expensive pieces. I don't care about "piano" action because I'm just an old Hammond player from the 60s, and never got used to playing piano action keyboards. Anyway, for the price point and intended demographic, it's a great little keyboard.

Not too bad

I decided to purchase the Yamaha NP30 when I decided to learn how to play. For the price, it isn't too bad. The keys feel okay, but nowhere near as good as the more expensive stage pianos. The built in piano sounds are fine, but everything else is very cheesy and sound like they're straight from the 1980's. It's kind of hilarious. If you're playing alone and using this for practice, the built in speakers get the job done. Overall, even though there isn't anything overly good about this piano, there isn't anything really bad I can say about it either. It's pretty basic and gets the job done. I like plugging the piano into my computer, and using sampling software to get some really great recordings.

This keyboard is a dream come true. I don't know how they got such a light keyboard to sound so great. I don't go beyone the pianos and the e pianos... Sometimes get the strings in there. But this keyboard is awesome.

Absolutely Wonderful

I bought this piano for my daughter who wanted to learn and for myself who wanted to pick it up again after about a 15 year absence. It plays great I would love a full 88 keys but this more than does the job. The graded touch system is nice not quite as close to an acoustic piano as could be but without adding tons of weight it is a great alternative. The sound when plugged into a PA is amazing, one of the closest to the real thing digital pianos I have ever heard. I bought it because I didn't want a digital piano that was also a drum machine with a thousand sounds I wanted a piano. With that being said the extra sounds it does have like organ and strings aren't bad at all with midi outs you can always add to that if need be but I bought it for the piano and I am as pleased as can be. The size and weight make it wonderfully portable. I bought the more expensive sustain pedal and am very glad I did. Overall I would recomend this piano to anyone who needs an affordable digital piano that sounds great and is very portable.

NP-30 Rocks!

I'm a busy pro musician and I picked this little gem up on a lark. Wow, it's so light/cheap...amazing! I've learned that the lighter a keyboard is, the more likely I'm gonna use it :-). I own a Fatar (controller), an old Yamaha PF-80, a Yamaha S-80, a Yamaha P-80 and a Casio Privia---This is the one I reach for most frequently. The action is also interesting as it responds like a piano. It took a little adjusting to master the slippery keyboard action-(I'm used to playing hard and fast)--but I love it now!
