The Roland Fantom-G8 Workstation is a dream keyboard instrument that redefines the boundaries of playability and creativity. Roland has included an advanced sound engine, revolutionary ARX SuperNATURAL> expansion bay, large-sized color LCD, powerful new audio/MIDI sequencer, first-class "Ivory Feel" weighted keys and more to the Fantom-G8.

Advanced Sound Engine
Driven by a powerful new audio processor, the Roland Fantom-G provides new sonic depth and versatility. With twice the wave-ROM capacity of its predecessor, it contains a treasure trove of Roland's world-famous SRX-quality sounds, but what really sets this instrument apart is its new ARX expansion, which allows additional SuperNATURAL sound-sets and fully dedicated synth and effects engines to be added to this already powerful live workstation.

SuperNATURAL ARX Expansion
Fantom-G workstation provides ARX slots that accommodate two SuperNATURAL expansion boards. SuperNATURAL is Roland's unique behavior-modeling technology that enables a new level of organic, emotional expression previously unattainable in synthesizers. Applied to traditional-instrument sounds, SuperNATURAL enables the delicate, organic tonal changes and playing nuances of real musical instruments. It's also a powerful tool for electronic and non-traditional sounds, breathing amazing new life and expression into synthesis.

Power Sequencer Onboard
The Fantom-G is the first Roland instrument to feature Roland's newly designed power sequencer. In conjunction with the large-size LCD, this pro-level composition tool provides 128 tracks (including 24 audio tracks) in a fully integrated audio/MIDI graphical environment. A mouse can be also incorporated for computer-like speed and ease. Other convenient features include combo XLR and TRS connector, phantom power for condenser mics, Hi-Z input for guitar and bass, and line input.

Luxurious Extra-Wide LCD
One look and touch and you'll know that the Fantom-G is an instrument without equal. Only the highest-quality materials have been used to create this dream synth, with a stylish, futuristic design that will turn heads. Front and center is the extra-large 8.5" wide TFT color LCD for enhanced productivity. A first-class assortment of hands- on controls is provided as well, including eight sliders, four knobs, and ten buttons below the LCD.

Amazing FX
Fantom-G is loaded with a state-of-the-art effects engine, with multi-effects available for each Fantom-G sound/part. In 16-part multi-timbre mode, up to 22 effect routings can be used simultaneously. Create complex setups with 16 insert effects per multitimbral patch group, plus global reverbs and choruses. Mastering effects are provided for polishing songs created with the onboard sequencer.

Supreme Keyboard Feel & Action
The Fantom-G8 is outfitted with Roland's top-of-the-line PHA II "Ivory Feel" keyboard. This amazing keyboard technology reproduces the real surface feel of ivory acoustic piano keys providing a familiar stability and comfort to the pianist. The white keys have a two-piece structure which reduces the developed keyboard surface material is designed to absorb moisture, ensuring a secure, slip-proof feel that your fingers will love.

Extremely Powerful Workstation

I have to admit that this instrument was way more than what I needed but have been quite impressed with all of its capabilities. Being a classical musician, I thought it would be more fun to have alot of the bells and whisles that are on this unit. However, the sounds are quite good....yes, you can find various sounds elswhere that are better for specific uses. However, overall you should have no trouble finding or programing what you need with ease on this board.

It has been 10 years since owning a synth, and only having had this unit a day I am already easily navigating between modes, functions, and parameters---squencing songs--with ease, thanks to the awesome graphical interface on this unit.

Value wise, this is a tought debate---yes this is a pricey board, but it can do anything you call on it with ease and it makes the overall experience a coherent and pleasing one. I suppose it's all in the eyes of the beholder...I love my Fantom G8....

So, overall this is a great keyboard. Well constructed. Most of the sounds are very good. The layout is more organized and user friendly. The piano sounds, believe it or not, are not great. I tweaked them a little and got some that I get by with, but the original sample was flawed. The most important sounds in a keyboard are the piano sounds and they should be much better than this. Other sounds that I use (like the Rhodes, Clav, String, Harp, Moog, etc.) are good. The computer software that comes with it is a joke. Not written by real programmers, and it doesn't do anything that you can't do on the keyboard. No benefit at all. I haven't used the mouse with it, but what's the point? The keyboard is still in a data-entry type format not a Windows format. Scrolling is still the best method. Still, its a keeper. Pretty decent keyboard.

Roland Fantom G8 Rocks!!!

This device is a bit pricey, but is more than worth it! I researched and played many, many keyboards before buying this one, and do not regret it. I sold a number of personal items to pay for this and would do it again. It is amazing - easier to use than expected. You can quickly learn to record track after track, adding piano, organ, synth, bass, percussion, on and on... GO for the G8 with the weighted keys - it is far superior to play than G7 or G6. Go for the Roland Gold Keyboard! You will not regret it!

The Heavy Armada has arrived

When I bought it the first thing I recognized is it's size and weight (33 kg!).You can customize most of the func. buttons and D-Beam to do any thing. The performance fuctions(Live, Single, Studio), patch editors,Live Sampling and D-Beam Thecnology makes it way ahaead of it's rivals. If you are an piano player and looking for an actual "piano feel" keyboard, it's for you (for me). And for the negative parts: Some orchestral patches are not succesful. But with spending enough time with the Patch editors you may get what you like. The wieighted PHA II keys may not be suitable for every keyboard player. After all it's a great keyboard and will be "The Armada" of Roland Keyboard family.
