The Novation X-Station 25 MIDI Controller combines a first-class 25-key keyboard, killer sounds, MIDI control, a MIDI interface, and mouthwatering effects in a compact, portable controller that can be powered with USB or batteries.
The Novation X-Station employs a premium-class mechanism with semi-weighted keys and aftertouch. Even novice piano players will instantly feel the difference! Aftertouch, a joystick, and the assignable X/Y touch pad controller provide you with extra dimensions of expression for your performances.
Audio and MIDI Interfaces
Novation X-Station includes a fully featured audio interface with 2 phantom-powered, high-quality converters, 2 Neutrik combined XLR and 1/4" inputs, digital S/PDIF out, plus much more. The X-Station's dedicated headphone and monitoring connections with separate controls even allow you to work without a mixer. The onboard DSP effects processor provides instant, zero-latency multi-effects for monitoring or recording applications. Each of the X-Station's audio channels has its own effects chain. You can even record audio with effects on one channel and use the synthesizer on the second at the same time! On top of that, the X-Station also has a MIDI interface for integrating external MIDI gear.
Hardware Synthesizer
The fully featured hardware synthesizer also runs on the unique X-Station hardware thanks to its powerful DSP processor! The X-Station's 3-oscillator virtual analog synthesizer is based on the renowned Novation KS series and is 8-voice polyphonic. The extensive control interface provides instant access to all key parameters, making it ideal for live performances.
No cables are necessary as the synth is fully integrated: The stereo audio output is sent straight through the USB cable onto the track in your sequencer via ASIO!
DSP Effects
The X-Station provides 2 channels of onboard multi-effects. Up to 6 effects may be used simultaneously on each channel. The palette includes chorus, delay, reverb distortion, EQ, and even a compressor. The X-Station's effects can be routed for monitoring only (for example, giving the singer some reverb while recording) or for recording (for example recording a guitar with chorus). Thanks to the X-Station's unique design, synthesizer and effects for incoming audio can even be used at the same time!
Direct Remote Control
Want a first class remote control for sequencer functions? Need a hardware surface for your VST instruments? Would you like to remotely control other hardware from one surface? The Novation X-Station provides the solution for controlling your Access Virus or Propellerhead Reason.
The X-Station offers a total of 55 assignable physical controls, including 3 encoders, 16 pots, 9 sliders, and 22 buttons. And that doesn't include the dedicated controls in the audio section. A template can have up to a massive 150 virtual controls in total using the shift functions!
Tired Of Wires?
The X-Station only needs one for everything - the USB cable. That's it. Even power is provided via USB or batteries (whenever desired)! So if you really want to make your recordings on the beach - take your laptop, X-Station, and enjoy the sun as inspiration. But don't say we didn't warn you about the sunburn and the sand all over your gear!

I've had one for several years and really like it. Having a synth, MIDI controller, and mic support is great. The X-Station provides a good starting point for doing vocal work since you can give the vocalist a wet mix and record the dry mix with zero-latency monitoring. It's not a super-posh pre-amp, channel strip, etc., but until I do more serious vocal work it's plenty good. While the synth engine sounds great it's a pain to program since there are lots of menus and many knobs have multiple functions (e.g. oscillator waveform knob is shared by all three oscillators), but many synths are that way. For MIDI control it doesn't support Automap, and I don't tend to use it to control other plugins despite the keyboard overlays. At any rate, it's a key part of my home studio, and it's portability means it can go with me when I travel. I'd buy another one tomorrow if this one broke, got stolen, etc. which says a lot since it's been out for several years. It's still a fairly unique product.

The X-Station functions(A+),sounds synth(B),interface(B+),and its value?(A++)!!The manual is a bit extensive and ,therefore,a bit confusing. I'm using it with Cubase SX2 and Ableton Live 7.1 and once I installed the latest driver it worked flawlessly in Cubase. I had a couple day panic with Ableton because its latency would degrade from good to bad in about 5 minutes. The only work around was to turn of the track routing in Abletons preferences and the turn it back on(good latency for 5 minutes). Eventually I changed from direct to MME in the submenu under abletons preferences/sync area as well as turning on "value scaling". I also went into X-station "template common and changed "not synth" to "on" and set a midi overide chanel to 16. I also went to x-station "template edit" and changed its "control typre" to "cc".(after all of this I restarted computer) I'm not sure which change did the fix but now there's zero latency with 512mb and 30 gig hard drive:) probably the"cc"or"MME". It wasn't as hard as it sounds and now its perfect!!:)Great fx, awesome interface, good sounds, phantom powered, excellent midi controller, pre-amps, lots of audio routing options, nice keyboard, lots of assignable midi parameters, lots of usable templates, portable, built in filter, mic plugs, 1/4" plugs, stereo and/or mono..this and a laptop with daw(maybe a mic or guitar) and You've got a complete, high quality studio that you can take anywhere. I bought the micron first and though I luv it(for other reasons) this is much more versatile so I strongly suggest it over that. The micron rules too but as a synth-sequencer. It just upped the ani and took me so much futher once I got the X-station. Microns sounds are too die for though.. Microns sounds get an A+..easily and it's sequencer option bring out soo much creativity and I think it's an incredibly smart setup but if I had to choose I would still definately begin with the x-station if You don't have an interface or need a midi contoler or dont want to rely on plugging into the grid for function....there!!

I bought this X-station about 1 year ago. I use it mainly on stage. I use it for the many old analog sounds (which there are plenty). This synth has alot of depth and fullness. The sounds are fat and powerful (for the money). I also run a set of foot pedals through this synth. The quality of this synth is awsome. It can be alittle complicated. I've only scratched the surface of what this can do. As a midi controller, this unit rocks. I run a Roland U-220 rack mount module and control it with the X-Station. I've only got 2 keyboards, the rack module and a set of foot pedals. I use the X Station 90% of the time. I get any sound I need. I am a bass player who backs up on keyboards. I couldn't be happier with this synth. For the money, you can't beat it.

I bought this when it was still marketed as "Remote 25 Audio". It's great value for money and clearly better than the Ozonic or other products in its class. The synth is rather limited, but well within its price range. I'd call it one of the best all-round entry-level pieces of gear. The only reason i sold mine is because i'm getting a separate controller, synth and audio interface, with superior specs.
Oh, did i mention it's great for live use?

So...About a year ago, my brother got me really into synths. So much so that i decided to invest in one myself. After much research, and shopping around, I realized that there wernt too many choices in the affordable synth department. So after many painstaking months of thought, I finally decided to go for the X-station, and i have to say it was a great choice. This synth is great for the beginner, or even for the advance user. It combines amazing midi capabilities, and powerful synthisis into a tiny box. I would recomend this synth over any other starter synth, after having experience with all the other models. Please, take my advise, and go for this synth. Not the microkorg, or the micron. This is where you heart should guide you. Take my advise.
