The perfect combination of heavy sounds and light weight! |
You'll think the Nord Electro 2 Seventy-Three Stage Piano/Organ is the best emulation of traditional electromechanical keyboard instruments ever. 73 velocity-sensitive semi-weighted waterfall keys, only 21 lbs.
The organ in the Electro 2 is based on the digital simulation of the mechanical tone wheels of the B-3 organ and it offers a number of very innovative solutions to mimic the typical B-3 sound. Such innovations include: complex digital modeling of the original B3 chorus and vibrato scanner, simulation of the individual random contact bounces for each partial, and simulation of the unique frequency characteristics of the built-in preamplifier which forms the body of the B-3 sound. The drawbars are represented by up/down buttons and LED bar graphs. So when you change presets, the correct drawbar settings are shown immediately by the LEDs, avoiding the need for trial and error.
The piano section comprises several carefully multi-sampled electric piano instruments. As a bonus, it also includes an acoustic grand piano. The piano sounds are built up by a vast number of multisamples to catch every nuance from soft to hard hits. USB interface for quick and easy download of new piano sounds. Very flexible effects section including a rotary speaker simulation.
Nord Electro 2 Seventy-Three Stage Piano/Organ Features:
- Drawbar settings presets: 8 drawbar presets plus a random preset function in ROM and 9 user drawbar settings
- Keyboard Split: Makes it possible to play an organ sound with 2 different drawbar settings
- Supports an extra MIDI keyboard in addition to its own for 2-manual play with varied drawbar settings
- Electric piano section: Rhodes Mk I Stage Piano, Rhodes Mk I Suitcase Piano, Wurlitzer 200A, Clavinet D6 and the custom modified Clavia Electric Grand Model G, and stereo acoustic Malmsjoe grand piano
- 48 user memory locations (6 banks holding 8 programs each) in which you can store complete setups, including instrument settings (organ or piano) and effects settings
- Effects: Overdrive, rotary speaker simulation (slow, fast, stop), equalizer, chorus (2 types), flanger (2 types), phaser (2 types), tremolo, wah-wah (2 types), auto wah, auto panning, and ring modulation
- 73-key (6-octave) velocity sensitive semi-weighted "waterfall" (square front) keyboard
- Connections: 2 audio outputs, 1 headphone output, 1 control pedal input, 1 sustain pedal input, 1 rotary speaker speed switch pedal input, MIDI I/O, USB interface
- 44"W x 11-1/2"D x 4"H
- 21 lbs.

Nord stage 73, it's a killer

I have been playing keys for more years than I want to admit. Lugged around the M3 and B3, just had to have that authentic Hammond sound. Then I talked to a keyboard player from New Orleans a few years ago and got turned onto the Nord Electro Stage 73. The guy plays one and swears by itl. For a short job, grab it and run. If the hamond goes down, especially in the middle of a gig, your covered. I went on the nord site and listened to the sound files and thought why ot give it a try. Believe you me, it's a killer, and it brings with it all the other souynds you want, Clav, Rhodes, Whurlitzer, the menu is full, all you need is an appetite for the "SOUND" Would not be without it.

This keyboard puts out some amazing sounds and I absolutely loved this until it gave me some problems. I had an octave section of the electro 73 shut down and couldn't get it up and running. I had the keyboard sent to a nord service center in the beginning of March and it is now the end of June and I have no keyboard. I don't know why it is so difficult to repair my keyboard, but I would guess because Clavia is based in Sweden. Regardless of how far away the company is, I still have no Nord and haven't for about 4 months. Thanks Clavia.

Great Basic Board

Impeccably accurate voices, both for the B-3 and for the piano voices. Effects are very powerful and easy to manipulate. It is very easy to learn the controls. The simulated drawbars are very convenient, especially being able to save your settings. It is also very light and compact. I recommend this board to any gigging or studio musician who wants quality keyboard tones without overloading your trailer and without completely emptying your wallet. There is no reverb effect, but that is easily provided with a pedal or through certain PAs. This is the best overall board I could find for the price.

great sound, disappointing action

I like the layout and sounds on this unit-- very friendly, easy to change sounds on the run. But the action is nothing like a piano or even an electric piano. Very synth like, which makes playing piano rides and sounds pretty hard. It's not unlike when the DX 7 came out-- delicious sounds, horrible to play as a piano. As much as I like this, I'm considering trading it for keys that have a better feel.

In the scope of being a musician Id say I'm pretty young. I got this for my nineteenth birthday which wasn't too long ago. I landed this gig with a santana cover band and needed a much better B3 sound than my Korg Tritons. There was no way in hell I was going to get an actual organ, waaaay too expensive. So I was originally just going to tough it out with my Triton then I stumbled upon this when I went to a Keyboard store in Pomona and the worker there recommended it to me. I heard it and i was sold. The piano sound is awful but the rhodes and clav makes it up for it I think. I remember the first time I played with it someone asked where the leslie was and at the time I didnt even know what a leslie was. Needless to say I've educated myself. All thanks to this. So yea its great go get it.
