The reason why I slacked on a full 5 stars is because this is just a small unit for simple midi tasks.

It has the USB out, one midi input and one midi output. If you looking for a basic midi interface to hook up a single midi coontroller/instrument, look no further. Its powered by the PC's USB bus and I personaly have had no issues with it.

I have had a custom computer made for audio recording, and I have never had this lock up on me or cause issues. And for the price, you can't beat it.

I got this interface Spring of last year when I needed a bridge between music I had written on my computer and a MIDI module in my studio. It worked perfectly well while it worked, everything sounded and behaved just as it should have. After not working on the piece that I required this product for for a while, I returned to find that it had stopped working entirely. I never took it outside of the studio, it stayed there the entire time and simply stopped working. I plan on getting a larger interface (either M-Audio or Motu) anyway, now that my needs for such a device have expanded, but I am still disappointed at the flimsiness of this gear, even given the asking price.

Sure its flashing lights are a little hokey at first. But they've greeted me on so many jobs that I feel my M-Audio USB MIDIsport 1x1 MIDI Interface is saying: "Hey, man, it's all good. Let's start groovin'!" This little unit has served me well over a long time. Buy yourself an extra cord because that's the most likely thing to go bad on any midi interface. So, if yours does, you can swap it out in 10 seconds without having to chuck the whole unit.

This little guy is just what I needed. It works perfectly: install the drivers, plug it in and you're set. Not only does it work well, they give you a LONG USB cable (about 9ft). As for the build quality, I think the assembly is good enough, as long as you don't plan on chucking it off a building or running over it with a car.

The only flaws that I can see are that the MIDI receptacles are not secured to the shell, so plugging in MIDI cables puts some strain on the solder joints and the board. Also the USB LED indicator does that mac-in-sleep throbby thingie when its plugged in. I would have opted for just solid on, but that's just me.

Overall this thing is great and I am very happy with it!

Since I purchased this unit 3 years ago ,I have had a lot of trouble with it. It has crashed on me more times than I can remember. I have had to reload the drivers at least 15 times and now it has finaly crashed for good.
