Great product, but problem with Macs

I bought this for Christmas so I could use it with my mac. I had previously used the 61e and an oxygen 49 and they both worked fine with my mac. The Radiums don't work with the new macs interface. You have to contact Apple and it is a BIG mess. I'm just getting the regular 49e and not dealing with thes problems. Again, The product is very good, but be careful if you own a mac.

First, I need to mention that I'm really not a keyboard player at all. I'm essentially a guitarist that needed a good MIDI controller to use as sort of a mixer. While researching which one to buy, I also found that for about the same money (and sometimes even cheaper), a person can buy a decent MIDI controller that's also a keyboard. For the price, the M-Audio Oxygen 49 has a generous supply of knobs, sliders, and buttons. To me, the keyboard itself is also very, very nice. But as I already stated, I'm not really a keyboard player. Also, I felt that all the control knobs/sliders/button had a nice sturdy feel to them. A curious thing, I use a Line6 Toneport UX2 as my soundcard and I initially getting occasional static bursts when playing the keyboard using a soft synth (Reason). I plugged in an old USB 1.1 port and then plugged both the Toneport and the Oxygen 49 into tha USB port. That 100% solved all my static burst issues (I had the same issue with my guitar and Toneport as well). So now I'm very satified with the M-Audio Oxygen 49 keyboard.

A great little keyboard for a small space. The pitch wheel is strong and the mod wheel moves smoothly and doesn't stray. Compared to some of the more expensive M-Audio keyboards, the sliders and casing are little rough. The keys are quite similar to some of the lower end keyboards, like the Yamaha-PSR series or Casio. The whole thing looks boxy. If you have an extra $20 it might be worth it to get the Radium61. Altogether, I'm afraid it might be finished from a short drop. The installer did exactly what the manual said it would, which I think says a lot since many of the things I've installed before have deviated from the instructions. It set up instantly in Reason. I did have a problem with latency, but that can be easily fixed in most softsynth programs by changing the buffer size. If you are running Reason, just go into the preferences menu and then go into the audio page. If you change the sample rate to a higher number or lower the buffer size, the output latency should be reduced. I was able to get it down to 92ms rather than the 200 it was before without any noticeable changes in the sound. I'm sure those settings affect the latency differently from system to system.

Great midi controller...especially for Reason. I haven't had any trouble with the keys sticking. The only thing I don't like is the slight bit of latency I get and the fact that the keys aren't weighted, but you get used to it. Other than that...its a great value!
