Great Idea, poor execution!!!

I remember the first time I saw this keyboard on a magazine. I swear it was love at first sight; 88 keys, so many knobs, sliders, and below $500. I ran to the store to buy one as soon as it was available. It looks amazing in real life. Unfortunately it was too good to be true. Everything worked fine, but the most important thing, the action. The action on this keyboard is horrible. Playing it is just as uncomfortable as having to go shoe shopping with the wife. The action is spongy, the velocity is all over the place, and the keys make a huge clucking sound when being played. I thought that I had gotten a lemon, so I went to the store for a replacement. I went through three keyboards and still the same problem. As time went by other people in forums confirmed the same issues. Ahhhh M-audio, why oh why toy with our emotions. Anyway, I would not recommend this keyboard to anyone. The only m-audio keyboard that I would recommend is the axiom series. Too bad that they don’t come in 88 keys.

I just purchased my 88 Pro last week. For the price it is an excellent piece of gear. I have been a pianist and synthesist pretty much all my life and I have to say that the best of both worlds are at my fingertips.. The action is great on the keyboard and it offers a nice Piano like resistance to my touch.. All of the controllers are enough to satisfy the heaviest appetite for knobs and sliders... and USB power? Oh yeah. This thing is two thumbs up in my book

It is a great concept. So many buttons, knobs, and faders all on one controller. 88-keys and weighted, but there is only one problem...the action on this thing is horrible. It is consistent key to key, but if you are looking for a keyboard with an authentic piano touch I would avoid this one. The price is incredible (I'll give M-Audio that) and if you are not picky this might be the perfect piece of equipment. But if Like me and you want true control then look elsewhere. I have talked to a few keyboard friends who own it also and we ALL have the same complaint.

After using the Pro 88, I don't want to use anything else. One can really take full advantage of VST features with all the knobs and sliders. The transport controls (Play, record...) are a usefull feature. Nice action on the weighted keys. RTFM before you start using it. You'll get allot more out of it. Now, having said that, there is some room for improvement. How? I'd say double the amount of sliders; add a touch pad and joystick. Then it would have no equal.
