I got this gem of a keyboard mostly because of the onboard piano sample. However, in addition to the sample (which is very, very good, and better than the sample on keyboards twice the price), you get a powerful midi controller, a large library of sounds for your computer, a USB interface you can record with, and a free copy of Ableton Lite.

The keys, though not weighted, are quite touch sensitive, permitting someone with piano training to play with an emotional and expressive touch.

I picked this up a couple of months ago, and I'm not sure I can remember any music purchase I'm happier with.

I was mostly looking for a simple keyboard that could realistically reproduce the sound of a piano for my recordings. And this, the Keystation 49i excels at: the Steinway sample, when I record it in stereo, sounds like a piano. Not a simulation or a sample of a piano, but a piano. Although the keys are not weighted, this instrument responds expressively to subtleties in your playing. One thing any piano focused buyer will want to add to this keyboard is a sustain pedal.

The Sound Module that comes with the keystation has a lot of good sounds. I didn't originally buy it for that purpose, but it does a great job, particularly on achieving rhodes piano and string section like sounds.

I'm also a guitarist, and the Keystation can be used as a USB interface for guitar, or any instrument like a vocal mike. This is a handy add-on for multiple instrumentalists.

I suppose the only downside is that you are only getting 49 keys, not the normative 88. This isn't a real problem if you're quick with the handy octave buttons, which let you dynamically change your octave with a push of a button.

For the price, with the Keystation 49i you are getting a piece of equipment with which you can do an amazing amount of stuff. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
