It was really easy to set up w/ Garage band and it pretty much has all the controls you need for using the MIDI stuff. The con is that the keys are pretty cheep feeling. Obviously its not weighted and doesn't claim to be, but don't expect keys that feel like anything other than your average toy keyboard. Over all, though, I was satisfied. Worth the money

This keyboard works pretty well. Keys are a nice size, useful controls, and easy connectivity with my vista system. I use Adobe audition exclusively, and 99% of the time I use sampletank with this keyboard. works perfectly. I would suggest that if you don't have a real soundcard (if your computer is stock, it's not going to work) get an external audio interface(check out the UCA202). m-audio also has the keystudio, which is this keyboard bundled with an m-audio usb interface and session.

Overall if you're just starting with samples and virtual instruments or need something inexpensive and portable, go with this. If you're looking for lots of on board controls, go a little higher in price and you'll find what you need.

USB vs. MIDI

I think musicians who perform live with sequences and computers may be more used to strictly MIDI functions. The USB of the M-Audio is plug n play with Garage Band, Encore, Finale and many others. I haven't installed Sibelius yet, but this keyboard uses octave shifts for music entry, and follow the clock of the program you are using for metronome velocity. It's fantastic for an arranger, but I think live performers may be frustrated. It's a great piece of hardware, goes with me and my Mac Pro and Canon portable printer. Have written arrangements and music sitting on a rock on Lake Michigan's shores!

This keyboard could have been made better. My major problem with this prduct is that you need an ASIO soundcard and if you don't the sound won't go through the computer fast enough and you'll end up with a delayed sound.
