    GearBox Exclusive Vocal Preamp Models:

American Classic (Inspired by* an API lunch box preamp) in a classic studio setup:
  • API 512c Mic Pre
  • API 550b EQ
  • Studer 2-inch tape (Including Emphasis/De-emphasis & tape Soft Clip)

This model gives you classic rock tone that's focused and a bit compressed through soft distortion. It even includes the treasured tonality and saturation you'd get when recording to classic 24-track analog tape! Good for transients and maintaining a leveled vocal.
  • Vintage UK Inspired by* a Neve 1073

Warm with mild distortion when pushed. Vintage UK handles transients very well and is great for vocal tracking. Extended bass range also makes it great for direct bass and drum work.

Modern (Inspired by* an Avalon Vt737)
  • This modern must-have has a clean, bright, and non-compressed sound with soft transients.
  • Console (Solid State Console Mic Pre Design)
  • Has a flat frequency response that's clean with no artifacts or colorization. A great choice for tracking line level instruments like a keyboard.

Vintage (Inspired by* a Classic Vintage Tube Preamp setup) consisting of:
  • Requisite Y7 Mic Pre
  • API 550b EQ
  • Studer 2-inch tape (Including Emphasis/De-emphasis & tape Soft Clip)

This model yields vintage Motown, Memphis, Nashville, and early rock sounds.
  • Lo-Fi
  • Has a small speaker sound that's slightly distorted. Great for adding an overdriven vocal to a track.

White Noise Will Hurt

I bought this and enjoyed the keyboard and sounds of the guitar modeling, until the first burst of white noise almost took out my eardrums. The white noise burst problem is mentioned in other reviews, for me I had to toss this unit before it rally did some damage to my ears and my speakers. Shame on Line 6 for not addressing this further on ALL of their interfaces.

A great starter kit

I purchased this unit a week ago, and so far have been quite satisfied. The construction is of rather weak plastic and the knobs and bend/mod wheels don't feel very sturdy, but the thing works just fine. It simultaneously functions as a MIDI controller and recording interface (for instruments and vocals) and fulfills both roles adequately. Installation was a bother as no software or manual were included. I get the feeling it won't take much abuse, but while it lasts, it'll be a great asset!

mine broke in 5 months

I use my KB37 as my interface for recording vocals, guitar and bass with some occasional keys on my Mac. At first, I swore by this thing. I loved the sounds I was getting. However, recently, it decided to stop working all together! There is no longer any output of the monitors, nor is there anything recording via USB . I spoke with line 6, and beyond recomending I reload the firmware, software, etc...(which I've already done) they wee unable to help me. So, long story short, five months after purchasing it (90 day warranty) mine is a paperweight. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

Hello all of you looking for a killer computer solution for recordin, your dream has come true. I am using Vista 32 bit and this thing cranks for guitar! As a matter of fact it blows away the Marshall MG250DFX I just bought today. It has a killer lead tone and smokes ass. So for all you lamers dissing this unit, get a grip and learn how to use your computers. Quit bitching, just because you dont know how to operate your hardware. Sissys

KB37 All in one Solution
Posted by MikeB from Valdosta, GA on Dec 14, 2007

Prior to buying the KB37 I was using separate audio and midi interfaces with a simple keyboard controller. Now all are combined in one unit. It easily integrated into my Ableton full version and the added midi controls reduce mousing around which is counter-intuitive when music making. Using it live with a laptop is easy, but I suspect it would not survive the hazards of regular gigging. Hence the 4.5 for quality, since it's plastic construction makes it better suited to static, in studio use. All in all it is a great product, easy to use and capable of excellent results. I do recommend upgrading the included "Lite" software.
