Incredibly Unreliable

We bought this keyboard on March 1, 2009 for my son to practice on. I did a lot of research to compare the features, sounds, and prices between various makes and models before deciding that this model fits our needs best. My son really likes the piano, and it worked well for about 2 weeks before we encountered the first problem. A few keys consistently made very loud and disturbing noise. I took the keyboard to a Kurzweil authorized service shop. They took 10 weeks to replace the sound board. My son misses his piano greatly during this 2.5 month period. Luckily we had an old keyboard to let him continue with his lessons.

After we get the piano back, it plays well until the first week of Oct. Then the same problem happened again. I just dropped the keyboard off at the same service shop yesterday and was told to expect another 10 to 12 week wait for the replacement of the same board. By the time we get the piano back, it will spend much more time in the repair shop than it is at our home.

I really cannot expect the issue we had will be fixed once for all. In all probability, the same problem will occur again a few months after we get it back. By that time, the warranty will most likely runs out. We simply cannot spend our money to keep fixing this problem after that. It will simply go to the electronic recycling bin.

Kurzweil is now owned by Young Chang, and their new equipments are manufactured in China. Apparently, their Chinese factory has a real problem with quality control. Save your money and hassle. Don't buy a Kurzweil.
