One Heck of a Board

I've owned the PC2X for about five years. I bought it then because it was a competitively-priced 88-key weighted board with the famous Kurzweil sounds. I needed something with a good piano sound and a lot of flexibility. This board delivered that in spades. I've lugged it around to gigs weekly since I bought it and it still holds up like a champ. Make no mistakes, though; this is not primarily a synth. It is more of a classical/jazz/rock kind of board, in my opinion. The KB3 mode is stellar as well.

Reliable w/ Great Sounds

I toured this keyboard nationwide quite harshly from 2002 until this year and despite the cosmetic problems I am now having :-) the keyboard itself sounds great and performs well. I have had one key that has decided to output at roughly full volume, despite the light touch you apply to it. I used it for harder rock-n-roll music with piano, organs, and pads and it for sure got the job done.

A little heavy to transport around .. but I love it.

Top notch

I needed a weighted keyboard to get back into shape & settled on the PC2x. It's not the first Kurzweil I've owned, but it's the best, especially the sounds. The pianos are great, the hammond tone wheel emulation is incredible & the other sounds are well chosen. The controller features are good as well. It seems that many people overlook the multiple funcionality of this keyboard; they buy it for one reason (e.g. piano) and get confused with the other features. This is a Performance Keyboard & Controller! It does many things great on stage & in studio. And if you dig deeper, it is capable of wonderfully rich & complex sounds that aren't at first apparent. For the price, I highly recommend the PC2x.But take your time to understand what you want and what it does; then make an informed decision.

I was so pleased with this unit that I,ve bought two...so I can leave one permanently setup in my home studio and the other to transport to gigs. The ability to quickly setup various splits & layers on the keyboard is my favorite feature. The sounds are quite good and can be applied to various styles of music. The feel of the keyboard is very nice which makes it a joy to practice on. The octave transpose switch is also very useful for performing musical arrangements in the midrange of the keyboard. An additional plus is that this unit is great for controlling rack mount modules through program changes from onboard switches. I highly reccommend this instrument!

PC 88 (first series?)
Posted by Knucklehead from Texas on May 3, 2005
Experience w/product: I have heard about it

My PC 88 has been a good, dependable controller unit. However, a year back the (-1) c sharp key went out. Anyone have any ideas what caused that or how to fix it? At first, it started giving false notes, then it died out all together. No other keys have gone out.

I bought the unit used, and have used it daily since 1998.

Anyway, the old PC 88 accoustic piano sample is a bit long in the tooth now. The other 16 sounds still have use. Other newer weighted action controllers seem to feel better, especially the ones using 'real' piano action instead of springs. The springs squeek a bit here and there, but no keys are not sticking & the keyboard feel & firmness & response has remained constant throughout all 88 keys.

In all, a good quality controller at a reasonable price.
