World-class sounds on a small-town budget!

The low-cost Kurzweil ME-1 Micro Ensemble Synth Module features a wide variety of piano, keyboard, and synth sounds, as well as strings, guitars, basses, voices, and drums - a total of 256 programs in all. The samples and synth programs are taken directly from Kurzweil's PC2 series instruments, including the beautiful stereo triple-strike acoustic piano sample, multi-strike electric pianos (both Rhodes and Wurlitzer), and the the regular organ programs.

The ME-1 offers 32-voice polyphony and is multitimbral on all 16 MIDI channels. A global effects processor features the same effects found in the Kurzweil Stage Piano series. You can choose from one of 9 different effects directly from the front panel or via MIDI (the effects are applied the same for the programs on all MIDI channels). The Kurzweil ME-1 can also be transposed up or down up to an octave.

I had this module about 3 yrs, but I truly didn't know how to us it effectively. It's true that it may not be fully digitalize with a equalization point like a Roland or motif but for the purpose of having those additional sounds this module filled the void. I used with a kurzweil sp88 to give it the extra sounds. I went out and bought the Roland 2020 module at first thinking it was the module but when I eventually took the time to really work midi, this module was affective especially if you were on a budget and just couldn't go out and get another board. Now I use it on a midi board. Most of the pianos may not be the best but with some equalizing could be enhanced.

It has been about 1 month after getting the ME-1 and I am completely blown away. The piano sounds are not necessarily inspiring as a sit down piano but when you mix them with other synth pads (I have a Alesis Qs6) they are completely amazing. The piano "cuts" through mixes with an extremely musical and clear piano sound. Other piano synths I have heard turn to mud in a mix real quick. Although I don't recommend this as a stand alone inspiring piano sound, I recommend it for live and recorded playing with other instruments. I can't believe what I am hearing!

Very low on features but I knew this before I bought it. I don't anything more than what you can do with it. Sound quality - well most of the piano's are way too mellow. Bank A 7=MonoGrand and Bank B 4=Mono Stage Piano are the brightest in the whole piano group. I have the ME-1 wired into my Behring MX602A mixer and a little EQing helps a ton. EP's, Strings, Voices, and a couple of Vibes are really nice. All the other sounds I don't find too useful. But I bought this for the piano sound. I after a little tweaking, I am extremely pleased with the sound I get. Would definitely buy again.

I have used about all of the tone generators out there at sometime or another and i own a Korg SP100 and a Roland Sound Canvas. I really like the piano on the Korg, but i was looking for something to hook to my Peavey CM-8 controller in my studio. I bought the Kuzweil ME-1 on a whim thinking that it would be decent to use just for pianos. Boy was i wrong this thing is Great! It is mind blowing to me how wonderful this thing sounds compared to all the other stuff out there. i will probably buy another one to use on the road.
