The Korg padKONTROL adds another dimension beyond traditional keyboard control for incredibly expressive and versatile pad control. In addition to accessing drum sounds and samples, the padKONTROL can also control soft synths, effects, and DAW transport controls as well as trigger loops and video clips. The MIDI controller and drum pad's assignable X-Y touchpad provides real-time, natural-sounding flams and rolls while 16 cool-to-the-touch illuminated trigger pads and assignable knobs give all the control you need.

Each of the 16 pads can be individually assigned a note number and MIDI channel, and you can choose from eight different dynamic curves as well as either MIDI or USB output for each drum pad. The display lets you know what you're doing at a glance while the illuminated pads visually groove along with your playing. You can save controller setups in one of 16 User Scenes in the padKONTROL and it includes 30 preset scenes.

The Korg padKONTROL drum pad MIDI controller also comes with free Editor/Librarian software.

The PadKontrol has hands down the most comfortable and easy to play touch pads on it. I have tried lots of other pads, and none of them compare to the feel and responsiveness of the ones on the PK. I use it with Ableton and its an amazing midi controller for basically anything you want to use it for.

I bought my Korg padKONTROL a few months ago and used it in a mostly soft synth-centric studio. It integrated well with Ableton Live.

I really wouldn't have any significant problems with this controller if it weren't for the commonly reported problem that hitting a pad hard can set off adjacent pads. I experienced this with my unit and read about similar experiences on various message boards. This could be rather awkward in a performance setting and was fairly annoying during my time with the unit.

Also, the XY pad isn't terribly useful; it's not sensitive enough to do anything other than very basic stuff.

Although the sensitivity of the pads themselves is nice, I had issues trying to do anything that required velocity sensitivity. Perhaps I'm slightly heavy-handed, but I've become inclined to try alternatives.

Great MIDI Controller

I purchased the padKontrol a little over a year ago and have had nothing but fun with it. It is very easy to install and configure. I have used it with Reason mainly for Redrum under the Windows XP OS. Most recently I have used it with Hydrogen for Ubuntu Studio. The one thing it lacks that other competing drum/sample controllers have is faders which are on the Akai 24. However, these aren't absolutely necessary as there are two assignable rotary knobs along with the touch pad. The control and dynamics of the pad is excellent considering the quantized nature of MIDI controlled drum samples. It is certainly better than using keyboard piano keys for drum programming. I think it could be sold for less though.

Over all I give it a 4.5 . The touch pads are Quality , though it would have been nice if you could program your own light patterns. The nobs felt grity , I wouldnt expect them to be hevily used though, and they are of minor concern. The touch pad however was a huge let down. Its best compared to an "Intellivision" game controller. felt like concave molded plastic, which would inevitably break... and WAY before the quality pressure sensitive pads. No questions this is a PAD controller. It is not intended for heavy use on the xy touchpad, or nobs. But over all it is well designed for its intended use. (see utube demos) 90 % pad, 5 % xypad, 5 % nobs. Worth the money if its perscribed use is what you want... if the xypad is what has you there are better options... ie kp3 by korg. Status: returned, not fitting my use. though it is well designed for its purpose.

This padKONTROL is just about the greatest thing in the world. It has such great features, easy to install, and plain fun to use. Within hours of buying it, I was in love with it. It is so simple to use, just your computer and a USB cable does the trick. Everything about it is great, the assignable pads, and the parameter, just everything, and it looks great too!

overall, GREAT BUY
