I have been out of the performance circuit for a very long time. When I got a chance to re-enter, I did. I needed another keyboard to use with my ventage Roland JX-8P. I looked around and tried a lot of different boards. The X-50 has the most amazing sound banks and also the ability to combine sounds of anything I tried. The techonogoly has improved a lot since my last outing. True, the action sucks, but you can get used to it. I have no problem making this my primary board with my JX as the secondary. My only question (which has yet to be answered)is how it holds up. The jury is still out on that one. I will put in another review when I have decided on that.

I've read several positive and several negative reviews about the x50. Take it from someone who has owned virtually every korg since the M-1, (exept the oasis), that the x50 has the best sound bank in it's price range. If you're a serious player I would recomend this as a second keyboard. I have seen complaints on the action and would agree to some extent that it's a bit sluggish if you are trying to rip through a lead solo. What I've found with all keyboards however, you will adapt to it the more you play it. It seems like the x-50 sounds are like "the best of" album for Korg. I recognize a few sounds from every board I've owned. If you are bummed that it doesn't have sequencing capabilities, you need to step it up and pay for it. This board is great for what it's designed for. The next step up would be the Yamaha Mo-6 that has recently dropped to $999.00. I believe it's silly to pay 3 or $400.00 more for an on board sequencer, when a digital recorder is cheaper and does 10 times more, and will include vocals and other insturments.

This thing rules, we were luck to play it. Get beyond the plastic and the looks, and hear the thing! We have been shopping for synths /workstations under a grand. We think the Korg x50 toasts the Juno D and G. This thing has no sequencing -- it's strictly a live player-- but the sounds are not the same old sounds, Korg is living on the edge here. Yes, we thought it was cheap looking and ugly, yes, we were looking at Yamaha and Roland, yes, we will have to sequence on the computer, but man, oh man, this thing is mean, and we are totally in love with it. It rules. Enough synthesis to tailor a sound to your band, and enough sounds preloaded to let your grandma sit and pretend it's her Yamaha. Not the same, there is a reason why metal bands are using the x50. Wish it had aftertouch, but oh well great value.

I currently have have the Oasys, Muse Receptor Pro Komplete 5, Motif xs and Es, Roland Sonic cell with cards, xv series rack and software plug-ins in my studio. I do as much intown/out of town gigs and non of the above are easy to get in and out of a venue. I just got my X50 and was pleased to find that it is pretty has the same features of a Triton rack! The sounds are great but the key action has alot to be desired, but its a keeper. If you need better feel it has a midi in, so all you have to do is get your favorite controller/keyboard and go.. Its small , compact and an excellent value!!! AND it has USB connectivity!!! Korg, I'm impressed....
