Very poor quality

This is generally not a bad one. The quality however does not match the functions. I have used the PA-80 for about three years. It usually freezes and the keys are all dying. The keys are really cheap on other hand I used a yamaha PSR-5700 in the early 90's for about 10 years before I had problems with it. I will only recomend this unit to musicians who are ready to mount it at one position withought moving it about for gigz. Korg should manufacture thesame unit with greater quality and I guess I will purchase it.

I was looking for a keyboard at a reasonable price with all the buzzers and whistles. I tried Yamaha and Roland keyboards in the same price range but nothing compared to the Korg PA50. This is a great sounding keyboard but the problem I have is the cheap keys Korg put on it. I have replaced two keys Db and Eb. They are cheap cheap cheap. Casio keys are better. Secondly, I think there are some software problems, occassonally the unit locks up when I change to different sound modes. To resolve the issue I have to reboot. I been using it for 8 months. I plan to look at the Korg PA800 in the near future.

I went to the music store, planning to buy a Yamaha PSR-1500 or PSR-3000. Out of luck, none are in stock. I looked at some other keyboards just for the fun of it and ran into the Korg-PA50 (that does not look as impressive as the Yamaha I tried before). I play a little on this PA-50 and was so surprise with the sound quality. So I borrow a headphone and play there quitely for almost 2 hours, it has almost everything I want in an arranger, well designed for live performance. So I bought one, it took me a week to figure out most of the key features I need for live performance. I also downloaded lot of extra free styles and programs (or voices) from the Korg forum. This means I got more than I paid for. This is my 4-th keyboard and I am never this happy with a keyboard. In summary: the sound is near real, easy to play in live performance mode. The price is the lowest one for a keyboard arranger of this level. Even the new Yamaha PSR-900 cannot compare with this old PA-50 (from the sound quality point of view, I tried the PSR-900 a few weeks later and was very disappointed with it). The PA-50 is not as user friendly as the Yamaha, however, once I fugure out of it works, it has everything the Yamaha has.

What the PA-50 lacks is USB port to save stuff into flash memory stick. But it has the built in floppy which is adequate to store about 20 midi songs. The good parts: a) all the styles are customizable and there are 48 user styles, a lots of user voices (called programs in Korg language). One can even modify the factory styles if desired but 48 user styles are plenty. b) can save all user styles & programs on floppy (as backup) c) changing parameters during live performance is easy as all the buttons are there (dedicated). For example: one slider for acc. volume, one slider for solo volume, one slide for global volume, changing solo instrument using single touch button (4 of them, each for an assigned voice). The ending and STOP keys are far from the fill in keys (important, don't want to hit the stop or ending key while you intend to hit the FILL keys). Can't tell all the goodness in a few paragraphs.

A Great Arranger

The PA-50 is not the newest of the arrangers with the most bells and whistles but it has great great sounds and is very flexible for board of its price. The styles are very realistic, with lots of variations, the instrumentation for the styles can be varied, and most of all they sound real - not canned. For laying down background tracks or stuff to jam to this is a great keyboard. The only bad part about it is that it uses a floppy drive still rather than SD cards. Also, no USB. But working around those limitations it is a great arranger!

Amazing

This is probably the best arranger/price combination. The Drums are fantastic, the the Acc. are great too, there are a couple of rythms that sound "sequenced", however, for the most part (almost all) they sound almost as real as a band, Korg must have put a lot of eefort into this little monster. I have tried may arrangers over the last 4 years and by far this is great, I can't wait until I can buy the PA1Xpro.
