The Korg Electribe R mkII is intuitively designed and packed with fat, innovative DSP synthesis sounds. You can create beats and tweak them in realtime with the ultimate array of dance styles Korg gives you with the Electribe•R. Powerful Cross Modulation expands sound possibilities, and the Audio Input function can be used to rhythmically gate 2 incoming signals for cool effects. The mkII also includes a step sequencer, Motion Sequence function, low boost and delay effects, tap tempo, and MIDI clock.

An incredible analog-style beat box

The Electribe R mkII is a new generation of rhythm machine easily enhanced by spontaneous knob-based editing of analog drums and sound effects. Dial in your ultimate sounds and use the internal step sequencer to create original rhythms. Sound editing is simple; just turn the knobs to adjust the various elements of the sound. You can use the onboard sounds in conjunction with the external audio input to create unconventional rhythms never heard before.

Cross Modulation

The Cross Modulation function (replacing the Ring Mod found on the original Electribe-R) can be applied to percussion synthesizers one and 2 to aggressively take your DSP drum sounds into bold new timbral areas. Use it in combination with the motion sequence function to create unimaginably extreme sounds.

Groove with external audio

2 external sounds can be run into the Korg E•R mkII. They can each be rhythmically gated in tempo with your music using the same simple step key interface. By using the knobs to modify the level, duration, and panning of these external sounds, you can create unique and experimental rhythms.

Step record with ease

Korg's E•R mkII's step sequencer lets you use the 16 pad keys to make rhythms from the sounds you create. Since you can hear the results as well as see them while you step-record, you can instinctively create cool patterns.

Motion sequences and your mix

Knob movements such as changing the volume of parts or opening/closing the filter can be recorded directly into the sequencer. You can use these to add timbral change to your phrases, panning, and other motion-inducing fun. These Motion Sequences are saved in each pattern along with your sounds and phrases.

Fresh sounds and patterns

The Korg mkII also boasts a significantly expanded list of preset patterns that cover every type of dance music from techno, house, trance, 2-step, electro, R&B, hip-hop, drum'n'bass, big beat, IDM, trip-hop, and lounge.

I own the previous version, which, by the specs and photos, is exactly the same as the mkII with a bit older styling. It's a great concept if you don't mind building sounds from the basic waveform. It really get's your mind working in an interesting way that sampling drum machines don't. The thickness of sound it can produce is amazing. The sequencer is not exactly easy to use but it is manageable. Highly reccommended for tinkerers!

I have this thing hooked up to my home stereo and it bumps like crazy. It'll damage some speakers if you want it to. However, I gave it a 9 on features and overall because there are really no snares to speak of if you're looking for some "crack"-type sounds. I would not purchase this if you don't like claps and are into hip hop/rap. The sampler electribe (the gold one) has some preset snares that sound nice, so you oughta spend the extra 70 bones if that's what you need. Otherwise with a little tinkering, which is fun, you can get some pretty mean beats out of this thing. Nothing very natural-sounding of course. I would hazard a guess that it would be perfect for some electro/house/drum n' bass stuff. If you don't want to drop serious cash on a drum machine and are looking for something that will inspire creativity this is the box for you.

At first I thought it was a little pricey, but after getting it and firing it up, I realized it's worth it. I use It with a microkorg and a yamaha rm1x. This and the microkorg have really added a new dimension to my music. Within a very short time of getting this Korg stuff, I've been making some of the best music of my life. The RmkII does have some limitations, but they're very easy to live with. It would have been cool if it could be battery powered, but maybe that's not possible. Also, more effects (reverb) would have been nice, but it sounds fantastic the way it is. The RmkII is an analog electronic style rhythm machine - don't expect it do be a do-all drum machine. But, for electronic styles it's unbeatable. If you buy it, you won't be sorry. It's very intuitive and you'll be jamming right out of the box. I recommend it to anyone who makes or wants to make electronic music.

I recieved this for christmas because I was looking for a mid priced drum machine. You can do some pretty cool stuff with this thing. I like how you can model your own sounds. Only thing I don't like is that all the snares you can model sound a little weak...if you tweak them enough you can get them to sound OK but just lacking a little

Good machine

Very good for creating electornic sounds. Which is what I do. Not to good for realistic sounds. If you want someting that sounds like real drums this is not it, but if your looking for original electorinc sounding stuff this is good.
