This thing just crapped out on me. Started making some god awful noises through the speakers and headphone jacks. Purchased in june of 2007, has a 12 month warranty, product broke in 14 months...Decent Keyboard, but the synth features are very hard to use..I'll never buy another casio again

Only One FX Processor!

I have the WK3700 which is almost the same as the WK3800, the main exception being the USB port. For the money, it might be one of the better values available. Some of the limitations: The action is velocity sensitive but non-weighted. There is no 'give' in the travel of the keys and does not feel good when playing acoustic piano patches(very 'organ-like' and cheap feeling). Also, the keys do produce a loud sound when played. For me, a huge drawback is the single FX processor. If want to use the split, layer, or split/layer features, you have to manually turn on the DSP function each time in order to apply effects to all of the sounds in the setup. And even then, all of your sounds will be using the same effect. If you attempt to save your split-layer-etc. setup in one of the user slots, one of the sounds will be dry when you call it up. For some reason, the DSP switch seems to have a life of its own when it comes to how it switches on and off when using the split-layer functions. I spent countless hours trying to figure out exactly how it worked, consulting the manual and online forums, only to come to the conclusion that it is a design flaw based around having one FX processor. This limitation can be extremely frustrating if you want to program a lot of your own patches that use split or layer for live applications where you need to call up sounds on the fly and play them.

This keyboard is pretty cool for someone who is a beginner. It has a lot of bells and whistles w/ the memory stick port and floppy drive. It works really good with FL Studi 8XXL Producer Edition. Install very well with XP&XPPRO, with vista it very difficult to instal, Recommend that you call casio if you need help to install if anyone have vista. Nice keyborad for the money.

I bought this keyboard from this site. I am very impressed with the tones from this machine. When I played it against a recording of a real grand piano several people who heard it could not tell the difference which was which. I would like to address some comments about the "whacking" sound. If you go to your local hardware store and get some self-adhesive weather strips and stick this under the keys it helps a lot. For the price this is the best keyboard you can get. I record directly into the PC and it's awesome.

Casio Keyboard model 3800

This is my third version of Casio keyboards, 1800, 3000, and 3800. There is very little difference in the capabilities of the 3800 from the 3000 except for the floppy drive which I haven't used. The Casio shows up best when piped through a good PA system. Some of the presets are monotonous and some are downright obnoxious, but with some mixing and fixing you can find some really nice mixes that are easily locked into Memory for instant recall. There are only 32 Memory stations--so there is a bit of limitation here. The 3300 must be piped through a PA by using the earphone jack (although I have miked the speakers directly and the sound is pretty pure), while the 3800 allows you to patch directly into the PA. The keyboard touch can be adjusted somewhat, but the actual finger touch on the keys respond well enough to control the volume of each tone. Get a sustain foot-petal if you intend to use it as a stand alone piano keyboard--or if you want to control the length of the tones. The chord system is simple and has some nice intros and endings keyed in. You can get a lot of variety by playing with the Intro keys and/or the Variation/keys. You can also get some great sounds by mastering the mixer and the various drum options. I love the product although it is not perfect. If mine broke I would immediately order another without question. I hope they soon come out with a next generation version--and I will buy that one as well. I play at least 2 gigs a week, and it has only let me down a couple of times--the memory dumped and I couldn't figure out why. (I think, when not in use around crowds, keep the power cord pulled so that no one will start punching numbers and keys--I suspect that may have happened to me--also don't used it as a make-shift desk while the power is on. Stange things happen if buttons are pressed accidently, and you will have to re-program from scratch again....which is not all that hard. I recomend that you keep a written record of the mixes you lock into memory so that you can restore them without wrestling with all the tones again. In all, I say buy it and love it.
