Admittedly, to computer music making novices this beast can be a chore to get functioning via USB, but I had it up and running flawlessly within minutes. If you're looking for the feel of a triton, buy a triton, but this controller is excellent, especially considering the price. Flexible controls and quality key action, sturdy build and I have had no problems with the issues mentioned above, perhaps the models mentioned were dropped down a flight of stairs?

Regardless, Computer Music gave this one favorable ratings, and as usual I have to agree with the professionals. This controller would be an excellent addition to any project studio or stage work.

The only complaint I have is that the knobs themselves are a tad too sensitive, which some may see as a strength...

Thanks CME!!!

Cheap yet useable crap

I Ordered this keyboard overseas because i was fed up of using my heavy bulky OB12 as a midi controller keyboard at live gigs. i expected it to be a bit crap but with the raveing reviews i thought it must be worth the price. when it arrived it didn't work. i actually had to open it up and resolder a lead that i expected was meant to go to ground but wich no longer did. now that it works it is exactly what i expected. The usb interface is entirely useless, the drivers are utter crap. but using it with the midi output (wich was my intention) it works fine. The pots and faders are easily assigneable, the keys in my opinion are allright. and the data entry knob is a nice way to make small tweaks. So if you use it like i do, as a midi controller over a midi cable, it works. if you want to use uit like the adverts tell you you can (via usb using transport buttons and "easily" controlling whatever you want) it definately does not work.

My kingdom for a driver

I bought this controller intending it to be a nice compliment to my rig. I have been through 3 driver revisions with this thing, and they still do not have it right.

Problem - the drivers just stop working for no reason. There is no rhyme or reason to it. If you are lucky, they will stop working after a note-off has been sent. This was a consistent problem with revisions 1.03, 1.04, and 1.05 of the drivers. No matter what sequencer I am using (Sonar, Cubase, Nuendo, Live, Tracktion, EXT, etc.) the problem persists.

The controller housing is quite nice, but the technology inside is inferior at best.

Definitely not a players keyboard!!

I'll keep this short as possible. The key action is horrible, stiff/dead, uncomfortable and extremely noisy. Velocity settings stink. The buttons are very loose & generic. If you play hard, the thing will change patches and do other unexpected things while you are playing. Pretty much useless for gigging. I am very disappointed. The only thing the UF6 has going for it is its durable aluminum construction and paint job.

Stiff Stiff Stiff

I was hoping this keyboard would feel like a dream, it's sure priced like one. The semi-weighted keys feel too stiff. They don't play too fluidly.

The UF6 sliders, and knobs feel okay, they are smooth & sturdy. The Sequencer Remote buttons feel flimsy. I don't know which would break first, the plastic buttons, or the cheap feeling contacts beneath them.

The Jog dial is a nice touch & helps you get through large sound banks with a twist of the dial. Nice feature.

But what good are all the cool feature if the keys feel unplayable.

It's sad that Keyboard magazine reviewed the UF88 & gave it raves all around ... especially the fully weighted keys. But for computer based music ... Who wants or has room for 88 keys sitting on their desk.

As of this writing the keyboard does not work via USB with MOTU Digital Performer on a PowerMac Dual G4 running OS X 10.4 (Tiger). I had to uninstall the CME UF v1.0 driver that came with the UF6 & reinstall my trusty MOTU FastLane USB MIDI interface.

Oh well ... time to return this puppy & keep on looking for something better.
