The Alesis Andromeda is a 16-voice, 16-channel multitimbral analog synth with all the controls you need to creatively shape its mind-blowing sonics. The fully analog signal path is controlled by a high-speed Motorola Coldfire microprocessor, and has 2 analog oscillators and 2 filters per voice. Available waveforms are sine, triangle, square, up saw, and down saw. External audio inputs allow routing of outside signals through its filters. Also features 3 - 7-stage, 3-level envelopes capable of functions never before found in any analog synth. An extensive mod matrix offers enormous freedom in configuring, while its front panel gives you 72 knobs and 144 buttons for rapid-fire sound tweaking. The 61-note, synth-weighted keyboard features velocity and aftertouch sensitivity. Performance features include portamento with 9 slopes, legato functions, an arpeggiator and analog sequencer with MIDI sync, high-quality digital effects, and a nasty analog distortion circuit. Internal program memory on this Alesis keyboard features 256 presets and 128 user-defined sets, plus a PCMCIA-format memory card slot for additional programs and mixes.

Analog bliss can be yours with this state-of-the-art Alesis synthesizer.

I was really looking forward to getting this in my setup! The first one arrived with bad outputs, the second one had symmetrical dents 6in away from each other next to the alesis logo. Very, very, disappointing. Seeing that I had also ordered a guitar and they sent me the wrong model, a cheaper version. I wasn't going to try my luck a third time. I'm kind of stupefied at this point as to the legitimacy of there operations.

Reminds me of an Oberheim

First of all, there are good and bad sounds on the Andromeda from the factory. I found that it has way too many sound effect patches. So I started with a patch that I really liked, and begin to tweak with the envelope filters, resonance, waveforms, oscillators, effects, etc. I eventually would end up with a sound even better than the one I started with from the factory. So I began to overwrite all the other sounds that I would never use with my new ones. I am a huge Jupiter 8, Oberheim OBXA, OB8, and Moog Fan. So I have spent some time recreating sounds that were available in those synthesizers. I am very pleased with the quality and sound of the Andromeda and what I have been able to accomplish in recreating my favorite classic synths. Also, I think that the Andromeda is about the phattest synth I have played, even as phat or phatter than the Oberheims, and Jupiter. If you know just a little bit about programming, you can easily turn this keyboard into a beast from the past!

I own a Jupiter 8, a Juno 106 and an ARP Axxe and I can say that the A6 - in both sound and design - is far more versatile and is an extremely flexible board. The keyboard feels great and the ribbon controller and the after touch are beautiful, the envelopes are tight and the modulation is where the A6 shines and stands above all .. this is the closest thing to a modular design in a compact hard wired fully programmable synthesizer, roll up your sleeves and get inside the engine and do some programming and you will come up with some cone rattling sounds. The filters sound fantastic and first class and are excellent for painting different colors in soundscape from nasal and distorted to haunting and beautifully warm sounds. At first I was skeptic about all the controls and stuff but once I sat down and played it it was really easy to overcome. the sound is unlike anything I ever heard. This is a must for anyone who is looking for a best quality synthesizer out there.
