The Akai MPC2500 Music Production Center combines a 64-track MIDI sequencer with a 32-voice, 16-bit stereo digital sampler in one extremely powerful desktop unit.
The Akai MPC2500 has 2 internal effects processors that can be used simultaneously. They include a wide range of effects algorithms, such as reverb, delay, bit grunger, chorus, phasers, flying pan, 4-band EQ, compressor, and a phase shifter.
Realtime control is provided by 2-note variation sliders and 2 Q-Link knobs that can be separately assigned to allow flexible, realtime performance control of a wide variety of selectable parameters. These parameters include level, pan, filter cut-off and resonance, and tuning. Each assignable Q-Link knob can generate MIDI data so that parameter information can be recorded and played back from within a sequence.
2 MIDI inputs and 4 MIDI outputs come standard on the Akai Music Production Center, enabling 64 external MIDI channel operation. In addition, the MPC2500 can individually control its onboard sampler with up to 64 parts, allowing users to assign a different program on each track.
A large LCD screen allows a clear view of sequence data. Continuous MIDI data can also be shown, as well as edited, graphically.
Comes with 16MB of onboard memory which can be expanded up to 128MB of RAM via the optional EXM128 memory card ( sold separately. Optional CD-M25 drive adds CD burning capability (sold separately) .

This unit is a VERY capable sequencer/sampler, that alot of hip hop users tend to go to for their beats, but it's not JUST for hip hop. Any music that makes heavy use of sampling, especially industrial (aggrotech, industrial metal, ebm, ect) would definitely benefit from this machine, especially with JJOS2 installed, because of all the synthesis options it offers (LFOs, ADSR envelopes, and other things to manipulate most parameters)! The pads feel AMAZING compared to the MPC1000, which is worth the money for portability, but the pads aren't of the same quality. The massive amount of analog I/O is also good for recording individual parts, or even running the tracks live into external effects units (stomp-boxes sound like fun here... ^_-). The filters are also pretty decent, and have nice resonance to them (don't expect the uber harshness of comb filtering, but you have plenty of I/O to route your sounds into such effects units) Overall, to I'm actually going to purchase this unit myself in a few months when I get the chance.
Also, for anyone who has ever played with a Muse Research Receptor, I have a firm belief that the MPC 2500 would make an EXCELLENT hardware sequencer for it. All the power of VST, with all the sequencing power of hardware. Imagine the possibilities. =)

I own it, I love it. If you are feeling your creativity is being limited you need to upgrade... and this is best solution. This is an absolute dream machine. And if you really want to take it to the next level go ahead and upgrade to the JJ OS2. Trust me you will be smiling for days!

This is by far the best machine for your money. Ease of use, solid construction, and quality of sound is as my friend would say "like a lvl 70 warrior layin down the law" I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants to make great beats easily.

I used this when I was producing with my friend he has this mpc2500. I use protools reason and battery, and while I get songs done well with my stuff the ease of using this mpc was pretty unbelievable. I don't scratch or sample but I was watching him do it and it was very intuitive and easy to do. Very good product if you produce hip hop r&b or rap this really is a must have
